This was a questioned posed by me to my brother during a recent blackout in our neighborhood. I'm pretty paranoid and I came up with that it could have been either been because of a nuclear EMP or aliens shutting down our power and then taking each of us out systematically. Still it was a pretty good question. In one scenario you die instantly, maybe even get in a little prayer with your loved ones. In the other you will be hunted down by highly advanced alien lifeforms who would likely kill you or

vaporize you on the spot a la War of Worlds style (or whatever never saw the movie).
