• Hey,

just wondering what is the range of the planet sizes in new uni? Currently have used over 20 colonizers and got only 4 over 200 build slot ones and none over 250. Is this just RNG issue or has the sizes been changed from normal? Also, does size stay same and not random when colonizing same planet again?

    Thanks for advance,

for me the thing is, that other, also new players look into this, they think "oh i should also get now a 300+ planet", but most of the old folks here can tell you, that they run several thousends of colonizations, to achive this - and you troll here when running 6 ..

nvm, but i hope that all rookies here know that its a bit harder then 6 tries to get a good planet, thats why we set the first to 400 - still you / all have the options to get fields from the shop.

  • Hint: Warm planets tend to be bigger. I got a cuple 280-300+ without many tries :) With the new Synth Feature you can also cool them down later if you want, to produce more spice

  • Hello, it has been a long time! I might not be back, but while I am playing around (SI is my personal addiction!), I thought I would have some fun.

Is it true that the team wants an element of mystery in how the size of a planet is determined?

Is there an actual system behind it, or is it completely random?

If there is a system behind it, does the team want that to remain a secret?

Over the last 16 years of playing this game, I have heard an amazing array of "secret" strategies to getting a bigger planet. Are any of these true?

    • The warmer the planet, the better the chance of getting higher fields.
    • Sending a small amount of res with the colony flight improves the chances of higher fields.
    • Sending a few ships with the colony ship improves the chances of higher fields.
    • Only 1 chance of a good field planet is given every 24 hours, so don't keep trying after one success. Come back the next day.
    • Send 5 or more colony flights at one slot with about 30 seconds in between each flight. Delete the planet quickly if it is low fields so the next flight can arrive. But this way improves the chances.
    • Send 10 or so colony flights at one slot with about 10 seconds in between each flight. Cancel the flights at random, ensuring the first flight does not land. As long as the "system" does not know which of your flights will arrive, you have a higher chance of success...

Are any of these true? Are any of these completely false? I have probably forgotten another 10 conspiracy theories around planet field sizes as it has been a while since I last played seriously. I am convinced most (maybe all?) of these strategies are just desperate players creating a false positive based on random experience.

Is it good for the game to have players trying and sharing secret strategies about things? (Even if they might be nonsense strategies?) If the idea is for new players to be in alliances in order to get support for success (and secret strategies), have I broken a code of conduct by sharing these "amazing secrets" on the board?

And lastly (I think you have answered it above), is it preferable for players to be buying fields rather than getting high field planets for free? A lot of players believe this now.

I personally think it would be good for the game if there was an "algorithm" controling field sizes, and that it was secret and everybody was trying to "crack" the system. However, since the base code of the game has been around for about 20 years, I think that is unlikely.

  • It's clear that all this is done so that players buy fields ;)

    Nothing personal just the business.

think what you want, but the calculation isnt changed since we took over spaceinvasion...

the thing here Fodsey is, we call this "Zwickmühle" in Germany, its a dilemma, or "between a rock and a hard place" ...

So, if i tell you anything about the calculation => the magic is gone

when i tell you nothing => "you just like our money"-comments

lets try.a bit of a middle:

there is a really big range of randomized values, which are defined by a min-value and a max-value.

Some of here called "arguments" are reducing/increasing these min/max values.

When you think to say that we like to "just grab the money" - yeah go for it - with 6 colonizations ...

when you say, oh gosh, i dont like to spam the colonize ships, then go for some fields in the shop.

fact is, there is a chance to get bigger planets - also before we introduce the payment it was hard .. we put a easy way on the line, go for it or good luck on getting the planet. But i see no need to proof change logs on this function to Green trolls :P - nothing personal

I was hoping to see I wasn't the only one who thought this; I came here precisely because I had the same question.

I'm quite particular about finding large planets, but after a few colonization flights, I've noticed it's become more difficult to obtain large ones, of course, this can be dismissed as "bad luck" but it seems to me that planets now have a wider range of sizes.

That is to say, even the warm planets have appeared with fields of 90-120. I would understand if they were cold planets, but I don't know, it seems to me this has been the worst start in terms of planet size in the universe.

All that's left is to keep trying :S

  • Thanks Dschi,

I understand the rock is hard, and the hard place is kind of rocky. I must learn this German word "Zwickmühle" - German has very unique expressions! :D I guess that it would be good to know that it isn't just a case of "schadenfreude" where the team is just laughing at people failing at getting good field planets and hoping we spend money on fields. But I don't agree with Green_UK. He has too much of a cycnical outlook.

Hmm, it certainly feels quite negative when you say it that way. You know you don't have to play this game right? It really doesn't sound like you trust people here. Nothing personal, just seems that way.

Ok, I can think about things a little. I guess I was just wondering if some extremes could be refuted. I think it is good to confirm that strategies are useful for getting good fields, and also that it hasn't changed since the past. But possibly point people in a general direction of a good start for at least reasonable planets, even if more fields will need to be purchased later. I mean you do give us a 400 field planet to start, so thanks for that. But running out of fields on other planets within a few days is discouraging, although I did accept low fields due to planning to redo planets later.

It is difficult to colonise enough to build a statistical point of view, so we can only go on what we hear. I certainly don't remember it being this hard. I am fiddling around in Nexus as well as the new uni, and I am pretty sure I have never had such a long run where no 300+ field planets have happened, and I am trying many hot planets too - becasue that is the only dynamic I really believe is relevant! Without any data, I can only "feel" like my luck is worse than ever before...

I kind of feel like I have forgotten some strange strategy where I need to cough to the West 5 times just as the colony ship arrives... I am getting desperate lol. ;( I have only colonised 10 in Genesis with the best being 239, but in Nexus I have colonised 45 planets with the best being 289. Kinda sucks.

important here is, that when you have bought planet fields in the shop, this will increase the value.

So when you talk about a 300+ fields planet, and bought 100 fields, you talking (in reallity) about 200+ planets in a new universe where you have to buy these fields again.

I saw many tickets where player asking why they just got <200 fields, "in my other universe i got so big ones" ... so i have to explain that...

Im not sure about what kind of "parts" i explained here on the forum, but im pretty sure that i confirmed that temperature is a part yes.

So, with the new Synth Network, where you can hunt for big planets on hotter ones, you can go for the temperature decrease node on synth network, and have still a cold planet :)

  • Out of my 19 colony flights, I got 3 usable ones, the highest being 261 fields. Unfortunately, my luck wasn't with me this time. I'm taking it in stride; sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
